LUCAMA, NC :: Late Model veteran Tony Grady set the fast lap in qualifying for the Halloween Spooktacular at Southern National on Sunday, setting a time of 15.927 to edge out Rusty Daniels and his son, Andrew Grady.
“I take that as a little bit of luck,” the elder Grady said after his qualifying effort. “I’m surprised to. Of course, that was one lap. I’ve got to go 75. I was tired after 25 the other day so we’ll see what happens. Mike [Darne] and the guys, I didn’t even get to touch the car. First time I laid eyes on it was on Friday morning. They’ve done a real good job so they’ve done their part. We’ll see how the driver holds up.”
Daniels set a 15.934 second lap while Andrew Grady set a 15.964. Rounding out the top-10 were JD Eversole, Brandon Hobbs, Clay Jones, Haley Moody, Alex Fleming, Steve Mendenhall and Brian Pembelton.
The 75-lap race, which will be run on scuff tires, will go green later this afternoon.
27 cars entered the event but a few cars did not take time and Dillon Spain was forced to retire after an incident in practice.
