ALTAMAMAW, NC :: The Inaugural Commonwealth/Carolina Firecracker Clash promises to be one of the biggest and most unique races in the region. The race, set for Friday night, July 4th, delivers the opportunity for the race winner to take home $1,500.
The race will be the first race held at Ace Speedway for Moonshine Capital Promotions where the season that started at Franklin County Speedway will reach its dramatic conclusion. For many of the Late Model competitors, it will be their first ever race at the 4/10-mile bullring in Altamahaw, North Carolina.
“I think this is one of the most unique situations in short track racing,” former Franklin County Speedway promoter Langley Austin said. “Several of the top dogs of Ace Speedway are going to defend their home turf against the Franklin County crowd and it could easily produce one of the best races of the short track season.”
The winner is guaranteed a $1,000 payday in the race. If 19 or more cars enter the race, the race will pay $1,500 to win. A set of tires for the race costs $140 making the race one of the most affordable for Late Model racers in the region. With 12 cars from Franklin County Speedway already committed to competing in the race, the event could be one of the biggest races of the year.
“With most all of the cars that raced at Franklin County Speedway having already committed to running with us at Ace, this race really could be the biggest of the season. Plus, those Ace regulars aren’t going to want to stand by and just let some outsider come in and steal away cash that they could win on their home turf.”
In addition to the raised purse for the winner, every position will get a raise all the way to final position. No matter the car count, the last place car is guaranteed to take home $100, which is most of his tire money back. However, if 19 or more cars show up, last place payout will also be raised to $140 which will ensure that even the guy who has bad luck or a bad day gets more money.
“How many race tracks can you go to and not only buy tires for $140 but get all that money back for finishing last? That doesn’t happen very many places and that’s exactly what we want to do at Ace Speedway on July 4th. I want the guy who has a bad day to say to himself ‘dang man, we came here and it didn’t cost us hardly anything even with all our bad luck’.”
The racing program will also feature races for the Moonshine Modifieds, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Street ModZ, U-CARs and Mini Cups. Racing action will begin at 7pm. Tickets for the race are just $10 for adults, $5 for Kids 6-12 and free admission for kids under 5 years old.
