SOUTH BOSTON, VA :: It was ‘Bo Time!’ for Josh Oakley Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.
Oakley, of Rougemont, North Carolina, took the lead from Matt Bowling of Ridgeway, Virginia with seven laps to go and then fended off Bowling in a two-lap green-flag dash to the finish that followed the last of the race’s two caution periods to win Saturday night’s Bojangles NASCAR Late Model 150 at South Boston Speedway.
The win was Oakley’s second of the season at South Boston Speedway, and it came by a margin of .326-second.
Peyton Sellers of Ringgold, Virginia rallied to finish third after his right front tire went flat 13 laps from the finish while he was running second to race leader Bowling. Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Virginia finished fourth and Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, North Carolina rounded out the top five finishers.
Dennis Holdren of Roanoke, Virginia and Myatt Snider of Charlotte, N.C. finished sixth and seventh respectively and were the final two drivers in the 17-car starting field to finish on the lead lap.
Austin Thaxton of South Boston, Virginia finished eighth, one lap down after his car crashed into the wall on the final lap and Michael Maresca of Hannawa Falls, New York finished ninth, a lap down. Blake Stallings of Danville, Virginia finished tenth, two laps down.
Bowling won the pole and led until Oakley muscled his way past him one lap after the restart that followed the race’s first caution period that resulted from Seller’s flat tire. He and Oakley were lined up beside each other on the front row for the final restart, but it was Oakley that got the advantage at the end and the win.
Oakley averaged 77.082 mph in the race that had to be extended by two laps to accommodate a two-lap green-flag run at the end.
