MOORESVILLE, NC :: Officials from the CARS Pro Cup Series are proud to unveil the 2014 season schedule that will feature twelve events at ten different facilities. The series, headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, will kick off its 18th season of racing in 2014.
For the first time ever in series history the state of Alabama will play host to the season opener at Montgomery (AL) Motor Speedway on Saturday March 22nd. In 2013 the series made a triumphant return to the half mile track after a seven year absence. The following month features a traditional Spring date at Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway on April 5th, before heading to one of the biggest events of the season on Friday April 25th and Saturday April 26th at the three quarter mile Memphis International Raceway located Millington, Tennessee. The track, which previously held NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events, will welcome the Pro Cup Series for the first time since its inception.
The series’ competitors when then set idle until a favorite track amongst drivers pops up for the first time of two dates on June 7th at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Virginia. Before returning to the beautiful Virginia facility again on August 9th stops at the abrasive Myrtle Beach (SC) Speedway on June 28th, a special Friday night July 4th double header at Kingsport (TN) Speedway with the track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Models, and a return to the ultra-fast Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina on Saturday July 26th must all come first.
The four race Championship Series, that resets the championship points standings based on seeding through the first eight events in 2014, kicks off at the familiar Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, North Carolina. The 4/10th mile track crowned this year’s champion Clay Rogers earlier this month. The next two races will be at a pair of new raceways compared to a season ago. The series makes its return to the Coastal Plains Raceway tri-oval in Jacksonville, North Carolina for the first time since Bobby Gill’s win there in 2002 on September 20th. Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, Virginia will also return to the series schedule on Saturday October 4th after just a two year hiatus.
