HENDERSONVILLE, NC :: The UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Tour announced this morning that the next two upcoming dates as-scheduled on the tour’s race lineup will, in fact, remain unchanged and will not shuffle around in the interest of rainout reschedules. The tour will visit Kingsport Speedway on September 14 and Caraway Speedway on September 21 as originally planned.
“We’re working feverishly on getting these dates solidified for the rest of the summer and fall stretch,” said Kerry Bodenhamer, series president. “The downside of having so many rainouts on top of each other is the fact that it leaves you with so few dates to choose from in order to reschedule. I don’t think any promoter in this region planned on having to do so much rescheduling due to weather, and we’re just part of that same process. At least this way our fans and competitors know what’s coming up in the near future and can begin the process of planning their trips to the events.”
The other events on the original season schedule are still subject to change, depending upon the iteneraries of each track and the ability of various promoters to rearrange their programs to suit the makeup races.
“We have so few dates to work with right now, that it really puts our promoters in a box, so those who have been open and willing to work with us are greatly appreciated,” said Bodenhamer. “We’re willing to do whatever it takes, for the most part, to make these races happen. It’s just a matter of getting solid answers from these tracks on either rescheduling or moving their dates and sometimes that takes longer than we would like because of their own commitments to track sponsors and partners.”
Tentatively, in addition to the three confirmed dates announced today, the tour has five races yet to be run (either by rainout or original scheduling) at Anderson Motor Speedway, Dillon Motor Speedway, Newport Speedway, Southern National Motorsports Park and an open, yet-to-be-scheduled event that was on the schedule at its announcement in January.
“When we originally made this schedule, we knew a lot of our drivers were going to be moonlighting in the Truck Series and the K&N Pro Series and we tried to schedule accordingly,” said Bodenhamer. “Unfortunately, with the way the rain has played into this year’s racing season, some of those events may overlap. We are trying all ways possible to prevent that , but I think our teams and our fans are understanding of that and appreciative of the fact we’ve tried to work with them on both the original scheduling and the weather calls as well.”
When the tour kicks back into high gear at Kingsport on September 14, Dillon Bassett will take a two-point lead into the event over Garrett Campbell with a statistical chance of increasing that margin. Dillon Bassett won the fall race last year at Kingsport, but none of the other top four point contenders have had much success at the concrete paperclip. Campbell has a career best finish of fourth at Kingsport, Travis Swaim has finished no better than fifth, and Ronnie Bassett, Jr., has finished no better than ninth.
