SOPHIA, NC :: This Sunday afternoon at 2:30pm the green flag will wave starting our 48th Season at Caraway Speedway.  The track started out as dirt and evolved to asphalt and a member of the Nascar Whelen All American Series Family.  The famous .455 mile oval has seen several drivers pass through including, Dale Earnhardt Sr, Bobby Labonte, Mike Skinner, Dennis Setzer and the Petty Family just to name a few.

The new season brings the debut of a new Southern Modified Light Division.  Several have tested during the off-season and many are in the process of completing cars.  The Mod Lights are similar to the NASCAR Tour mods, just more economical with a Chevrolet crate engine and competitors only have to buy one tire per race.

The Late Model Stock Super Series consists of six events with an invitational showdown dash for cash on Saturday October 12th.  The event will pay $3,000 to the winner and the Title of Showdown Champion.  Invitations will come from the highest top three finishers in the first five Super Series events.  The final Super Series Event will be on Sunday October 13th.   This Sunday kicks off the Super Series with a 100 Lap event.

The big debate this week has been the Ford Crate 347SR, in which all surrounding tracks have recently added to their engine package.  Several drivers, car owners and engine builders are on opposite sides of the fence, including Track Promoter Darren Hackett.  “After discussing the matter of introducing the Ford Crate 347SR into competition at the track, with several car owners, drivers and industry leaders, I have decided at this time to not allow it.  I feel that my regular competitors that will be competing for the championship title deserve the respect to investigate this engine further.  I will be contacting a Ford representative and also conducting some testing with the Ford Crate, Built and Chevy Crate.  This is a hard decision to make as the Ford Crate is here to stay and all other tracks have allowed it into competition.  We will be announcing at a later date, after testing and closely watching the competition at other tracks, when we will allow the crate into competition. “  Stated Hackett.

The Season Opener gets underway at 2:30pm Sunday afternoon, with grandstand gates opening at 12 (Noon).  Trackside Parking and Pits will open at 9am.  General Admission is $15 per adults, Youth age 7 – 14 $5 and Kids 6 & Under Free.   On Saturday March 9th a special open test session will be held from 12 until 5pm.
