DAYTONA BEACH, FL :: The Performancenter PRW chassis swept the top two spots in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series portion of the UNOH Battle at the Beach on February 18th with Kyle Larson scoring the victory and Ben Rhodes, who led 87 laps in the 150 lap event, finished second.
Larson scored the victory with a dramatic, last lap bump-and-run on CE Falk. Falk faded to third, allowing Rhodes to finish second and secure the sweep for Performancenter.
“Sweeping the top two spots at Daytona is awesome,” Roger Johnson, Owner of Performancenter Racing Warehouse said. “It’s a testament to our business, the hard work these guys put in at the shop, the talent of our drivers and the quality of our race cars.”
Veteran crew-chief Lee McCall and veteran racer BJ Mackey were both instrumental in the team’s Daytona success. McCall, partner in the newly formed Hawk-McCall Motorsports, set-up the cars up for both drivers while BJ Mackey worked with race winner Kyle Larson as the crew chief on the no. 98 racecar.
“We couldn’t have done it without Lee McCall and BJ Mackey,” Johnson continued. “The experience those guys have is just unmatched and it paid off. We had the right combination of equipment, work ethic, driver talent, desire and, most importantly, our guys who put these cars together were just the best there are.”
Ben Rhodes will continue to race with Hawk-McCall Motorsports in a PRW chassis throughout the season where he will compete in the UARA-STARS series with Lee McCall as his crew chief. Larson’s win was his only win in the five races he competed in at Daytona Speedweeks.
