SOPHIA, NC :: Myatt Snider held off Martinsville winner Tommy Lemons, Jr. to score his first career victory at the Mid-Atlantic Championship Shootout at Caraway Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  Behind those two, Ryan Wilson clinched the Caraway Speedway track championship by virtue of his fourth place finish.

Snider, who is the son of NBC Sports reporter Marty Snider, started the race in the seventh position.  Shortly after a competition caution and intermission period, Snider began working his way up inside the top five.  On lap 130, Snider passed Mack Little for the race lead.  Snider then held off a challenge from Lemons to score the victory, the first of his career.

After the race, Snider reflected on his first career win.

“It feels fantastic,” Snider remarked.  “I can’t really describe it.  I’ve been working so hard for it all year.  There have been a lot of frustrations such as finishing second at South Boston.  There were a bunch of frustrations at Kenly as well and getting up to second in the Rusty Harpe Memorial only to fall back.  We finally saved enough of our tires that we got the win.”

Tommy Lemons, Jr. finished in second with Mack Little, Ryan Wilson and Randy Benson rounding out the top five.  Wilson clinched the Caraway Speedway track championship with his fourth place finish.

With his first career win, Snider now feels confident moving forward.  He will compete in the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park in late November and is also looking ahead to 2015.

“I think I’ll get more wins next year,” Snider stated.  “I think I learned quite a bit this year running at certain tracks, feeling what a good car is like and a bad car is like and feeling what works to win.  I definitely realized all that this year.  We’ll run good at South Boston and Caraway.  I think wins will come a little easier now that I know what works.”

Snider will continue to compete in the Late Model Stock Car division in 2015.  Right now, he plans on running at South Boston Speedway, Caraway and Southern National.  He says he’s also looking at running at Martinsville again next season as well as the Battle at the Beach at Daytona, if the race is run in 2014.

“I like South Boston and Caraway and have a lot of fun racing there.  There’s a lot of tough competition at South Boston. We’ll see about Daytona and Martinsville.  We’re trying to move up by 2015.”

Snider’s best effort entering Sunday’s race was a second place finish at South Boston Speedway back in August.
