RANDLEMAN, NC :: Ryan Wilson begins a new season on Saturday afternoon as he takes on the high banked Southern National Motorsports Park in twin 75-lap Late Model features.  Southern National is one of three tracks Wilson will compete at on a full-time basis in 2014.

Along with Southern National, Wilson will run at Caraway Speedway in defense of his track championship and at Motor Mile Speedway.  In his first start at Southern National Motorsports Park, two years ago, Wilson qualified on the outside-pole for the race.

“We expect to go down there and run up front,” Wilson said.  “If we can run in the top-five consistently, we’ll eventually get faster.  Southern National hasn’t been my greatest track but I think we’ll be better.  We had a good test a couple weeks ago and I expect to run well when we get down there.”

During his test session, Wilson worked on getting the car dialed in for long runs.

“We worked on a few long run things,” Wilson stated.  “We made long runs instead of short runs.  We tried to pace myself a little more so I can be there at the end of the race.  It doesn’t matter if you’re up front early, if you’re not there in the end, it doesn’t matter.  The early part of the race doesn’t pay anything.  We worked on some long run stuff that will hopefully help us down there.”

Southern National Motorsports Park is located near Kenly just a few miles off I-95 and US-301.  Tickets are still available and more information is available at www.snmpark.com.  The green flag for the season opener at Southern National will wave at 2pm EST on Saturday, March 1st.  Following the season opener at Southern National, Wilson will compete at Caraway Speedway’s season opener on Sunday, March 9th.
