Richmond, VA(January 11, 2013) — After a full rookie season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2012, 19 year old Midlothian Virginia native Sam Hunt has announced that he will be back competing in the East series in 2013. Sporting a new suit, a new number, and driving for a new team. Hunt will pilot the DRIVE Technology #18 Toyota Camry.

After running the full 2012 season for Precision Performance Motorsports, Hunt is excited for his new venture. “I’m honored and excited to be a part of this endeavor, I can’t thank everyone who has helped put me in this position.  I had the opportunity to drive for an accomplished team last year and can’t wait to climb in the number eighteen Toyota this year. I’ve got to thank my family, Shayne Lockhart, Craig Oliver, Hoyt Overbagh and J.D. Gibbs for taking an interest in me and making this happen. We are hoping to find dedicated partners to help us run as many races as we can.”

DRIVE Technology is located twenty minutes from Hunt’s home track, Richmond International Raceway. The team is managed by veteran stock car champion Shayne Lockhart. DRIVE Technology’s equipment has been inherited directly from Joe Gibbs Racing. The team will work under the direction of Lockhart and Hoyt Overbagh, the longtime cup series chief engineer at Wood Brothers Racing.

“Over the past few years I’ve taken a real interest in the potential that Sam shows on the track. We are hoping to provide him with the best opportunity to expose his talent, and put him in a larger spotlight where more people can see what he has to offer. Off the track, he is everything that the sport needs. His unique attitude and down to earth personality wins over anyone who takes the time to talk to him. He is a professional young man.” Said Team Manager Shayne Lockhart.

DRIVE Technology plans to field Hunt in at least ten NASCAR K&N Pro Series East events, starting at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2013.  Other confirmed races are Richmond International Raceway, Langley Speedway, Columbus Speedway, CNB Bank Raceway Park, Dover International Speedway, Road Atlanta, Rockingham Speedway, and both events at Greenville Pickens Speedway. The team hopes to compete at more events, but will depend on further sponsorship.
