Martinsville, VA(October 8, 2011) — Philip Morris claimed the pole for Sunday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville during qualifying on Saturday afternoon, setting a new track record with a lap time of 20.165. The previous track record was a 20.216 set by Davin Scites in 2008.

“It felt awesome,” Morris said. “It was just really glued. I don’t know what everybody else is doing. They must’ve given it up for the pole. We really hung it out there and kind of went for everything all in that one lap and ran good.

“I feel like we got a better racecar than we have a qualifier. I’m not used to starting on the pole so this is going to be an odd position but the car races really good. It holds its speed very well and it really goes through the corners good. That’s what’s made the difference this year is we’ve got a really good long run race car.”

Matt McCall qualified second with a 20.347, Lee Pulliam qualified third with a 20.365. Davin Scites qualified fourth and Kenny Forbes qualified fifth. BJ Mackey, Brandon Butler, Frank Deiny Jr., Josh Berry and Ryan Reed rounded out the top ten.

The top 22 start the race by time, with the remainder of the field needing to race their way in during the four last chance qualifying races on Sunday.

Joey Throckmorton spun on his warm up lap, but was able to get going again without damage. Brandon Baker wrecked in practice and did not attempt a lap, and Robert Bruce broke a cam shaft during practice sending his team home for the weekend.
