SOUTH BOSTON, VA :: Bobby McCarty raced with NASCAR superstars in Thursday night’s Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at South Boston Speedway.  McCarty overcame suspension issues to score a sixth place finish in the race.

McCarty’s race started with a 17th place qualifying effort.  He went on to finish fifth in his heat race. McCarty worked his way up through the field before late race contact broke something in the right front suspension.  McCarty held on to finish in sixth after the incident.

“We had a good car,” McCarty said.  “We just needed to qualify better.  Then, with about 15 to go, we got in to it with another driver and messed up the right front suspension and had to hold on to sixth.  It was a good showing for us even though I felt the finish we got wasn’t what the car culd have got but we learned a lot and will go to work.”

McCarty was second among South Boston regulars and fourth among regional competitors.  In six races on the season, McCarty has top-10 finishes in all six starts.

McCarty will be back in action on May 3rd in twin Late Model Stock Car features at South Boston Speedway.
