OKLAHOMA CITY, OK :: Trey Marcham had a fast car in testing and is anticipating a strong performance in Sunday’s Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway.  Marcham’s goal is to get up to the front and stay there.

“The car was pretty good in testing on Wednesday,” Marcham said. “We ran around on an old set of tires from Myrtle Beach and ran pretty decent lap times.  The rain changed everything and the track slowed down afterwards.  The lap times were good until the end when the lap times (on the tires) ran out.  For my first time at the track, I can’t complain at all.”

Marcham believes he will need to qualify well and run near the front of the heat races, suggesting the racing could be intense in the middle of the pack.

“First thing’s first, we’ve got to make the race,” Marcham explained.  “That’s the most important thing.  We’ve got to qualify well.  That’s the biggest thing.  From what I’ve heard, there’s a reputation of a lot of cars on the bubble being taken out so I don’t want to be put in a spot where I have to make a decision that affects whether I make the race or not.  I want to be able to start up close to the front in the heat race and get away from all the drama.”

Marcham is confident with the car and the crew.  He feels like the car will be good enough for him to deliver a good result in Late Model Stock Car racing’s biggest race.

“That car that we’re in is really good.  It’s really stable, most stable car I’ve ever been in,” Marcham remarked.  “As long as everyone’s got the Myrtle Beach mentality which, I don’t know how bad tire wear is at Martinsville, as long as you can keep the tires underneath you, the car’s going to be good as long as you keep the nose clean.  It’s a very fast car.  I just need a good qualifying run and we need a little luck on our side.”

Marcham has two wins on the season in the Late Model Stock Car ranks which he recorded in July at Myrtle Beach Speedway, the first and second Late Model victories of his career.

Qualifying for the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 will be on Saturday, October 5th and the race will be on Sunday, October 6th, starting at noon with heat races that will set the field in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300.  RACE22.com will have coverage of the race.
