SWANSBORO, NC – Carteret County Speedway has canceled Saturday night’s racing program, which featured the MASS Street Stocks, due to the looming threat from category four Hurricane Florence.

Hurricane Florence is expected to hit the coastal region of North Carolina on Friday and possibly linger into the weekend.  Over the past weekend, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued a State of Emergency and Carteret County officials have also placed the entire county under a local State of Emergency.

“With Hurricane Florence looming and the area under a state of emergency, we have made the decision to cancel Saturday’s race,” Carteret County Speedway media relations director Andy Marquis said.  “The safety of our fans and drivers is first and foremost for us, and there is no good reason for us to try to push forward and race.  We urge our fans to take this storm seriously, monitor local media and heed advice from authorities during this storm and we hope for the best for everyone.”

The September 29th date was also pulled from the schedule last week due to scheduling conflicts.  The next race at Carteret County Speedway will be on Saturday, October 6th with Late Models headlining the event.  A makeup date for the MASS Street Stocks has not yet been announced.  Carteret County Speedway will also have races on Saturday, October 27th and a recently added date on Saturday, November 15th.
