Wytheville, VA ~ This past weekend we were all set to go racing … we had someone set to cover the PASS South opener at Dillon, a couple people headed to Hickory for the UARA-STARS opener, coverage from South Boston and Greenville Pickens and well … mother nature had other plans.

All of the races that were supposed to help kick off the 2009 season were washed out by a huge rain storm that made its way through the area. The PASS South Series was the first to cancel their event on Thursday with the UARA-STARS to follow Friday morning as South Boston and Greenville Pickens Speedway added their names to the list before the day was over. That left many of us race fans to drown in the weather system that had canceled the day we had looked forward to since December or before.

March 14th being completely behind us, we’re moving on, we’ve got a new “Lid Lifter Weekend” to prepare for as the seasons for two touring series as well as several tracks are set to kick off 2009. The UARA-STARS are preparing for perhaps the biggest Late Model Stock Car race in history as the series hits the Bristol Motor Speedway sharing the stage this weekend with the NASCAR Nationwide and Sprint Cup Series.

However, they aren’t the only ones looking to lift the lid on the season with the PASS South Series having postponed their race from last week to Saturday night in Dillon, SC. Several weekly series tracks will also kick off their season including South Boston Speedway, Greenville Pickens Speedway, Concord Speedway and Hickory Motor Speedway. So no matter where you are you can get your “short track” racing fix.

Certainly any of these tracks would be a great choice and the tracks need your support this year more than ever. The economy is in the dumps, you hear every time you turn the TV on, but Late Model Stock Car racing could thrive, but every track, every racer and everyone involved needs your help. Turn out and support the best form of racing in the world, it’s everywhere you turn!
