Stacy Puryear started from the pole and led all 75 laps in Saturday night’s season opening race at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina.

Puryear was never seriously challenged as he easily was the class of the 10 car field which included five former track champions.

“We’ll be back with this car next week,” the 2008 track champion said after the race, talking about next weekend’s Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) Late Model Stock race.

Craig Moore finished in second while Mike Looney, Chuck Lawson and Thomas Scott rounded out the top-five.

Chuck Lawson survived a sizzling duel with newcomer Layne Riggs to win the 35 lap Limited Sportsman race.

Riggs lost a probable runner-up finish when he spun in the second turn while trying to pass Lawson for the lead in the late stages.  Riggs began his debut race in the division from the pole position and served notice that he will be a strong contender for the 2015 division championship.

Dennis Sargeant, Jr. finished second while Daniel Schadt, Chris Elliott and Tracey Chambers rounded out the top-five.
