When racing resumes at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night, August 1st, the Late Model division will take center stage with twin 35-lap races paying $1,000 to win each race and $500 on the line in the Deacon Jones Auto Group Win from the Rear Challenge.

“We’re excited to change things up next weekend,” said track promoter Langley Austin.  “It’s easy to let things get stale sometimes and just go with the flow of what you had planned but we’re not sitting idle.  We’re putting our money where our mouth is and offering up one of the biggest purses of the season for our Late Model division.”

The race was scheduled to be a 100-lap event but many racers are looking for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points and the decision was made to change the race to twin features to give them double the NASCAR points available.  The laps have also been reduced to 35 with an eye toward the fans in the stands.

“This a good weekend when not a lot of tracks are racing and we’d like to take advantage of that and offer points chasers two chances to get NASCAR points.  We’re also thinking about the fans sitting in the stands and we’re ready to give them a real shootout.  With 35-lap races on tap, the racers won’t be able to be patient.  They’ll have to race hard for points and victories.”

The Late Model race will also feature NASCAR Sprint Cup Series “Shootout Style” restarts with drivers lining up double file just like they run on the track for the restarts.

“Shootout style restarts should add another element into the show next weekend,” continued Austin.  “These guys are used to the cone and getting to pick whether they will restart on the inside or outside but for this event the drivers won’t get to choose.  It should be exciting and make for a couple of great races for the fans.”

The “Dog Days Clash” also includes the return of the Street Stock division as the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock (MASS) series gets a pre-race tune-up for their August 29th event.  The Street Stocks will race by MASS rules and will compete for 50 laps in a $750-to-win feature race.

Also on the schedule for August 1st is a make-up race for the Southern Ground Pounders, a vintage stock car racing series that brings older fans back memories of days gone by and thrills younger generations with the “old school” looking cars.  Plus Southern National Motorsports Park will have racing in Chargers, U-Cars, Legends, Bandoleros and Stingers.
