RANDLEMAN, NC :: Ryan Wilson set the fastest lap in qualifying at the 50 laps NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model race at Caraway Speedway on Saturday night.  After a redraw, Wilson started in the fifth position.  He went on to lead laps on his way to a second place finish.

Wilson started fifth but moved up to second place on the first lap then took the lead on the second lap.  However, the car was experiencing some sort of electrical problem or a problem in the carburetor.  Wilson saw a big lead diminish as the problems got worse and eventually fell to second place.  From there, he was able to hold off several other competitors who challenged him for the position.

“It’s so disappointing to have a car that good all day and then have something out of our control happen like that,” said Wilson.  “I definitely felt like we were the car to beat until that issue.  These guys worked hard and gave me a really good car.  Once we get the problem figured out, I know we’ll be the car to beat.”

Wilson’s second place finish allowed him to move to first place in the championship point standings at Caraway Speedway.

“We’ve started off the season with a third place finish and a second place finish,” said Wilson.  “Hopefully, the next finish is a win.  Consistency is good when you’re competing for a championship, but it’s not good enough for me.  I want to win races.”

Wilson’s next race will be on March 30th at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC.
