CALLAWAY, VA :: Franklin County Speedway has gotten a facelift ahead of the dawn of a new season as the time and the tension of the offseason finally expire.  On Sunday afternoon, the 3/8 mile track in Callaway, Virginia will roar to life and the green flag will fly on the 45th season of racing.

Franklin County Speedway received a facelift during the offseason, improving the appearance around and at the racetrack.  The walls were repainted during the offseason with a vintage look which fits Franklin County Speedway’s old school image.  Along with the repainted walls, facilities in and around the track have also been repainted.

“A lot of people helped us clean the track up and repaint the track,” track promoter Langley Austin said.  “It took a lot of hard work but this is the best the track has looked in years.”

In 2014, Franklin County Speedway will again provide the most affordable family fun and entertainment in the Roanoke region.  Ticket prices will remain flat in 2014 at $10 general admission for adults, $5 for kids 6-10 and kids five and under free.  This year, Franklin County Speedway will also continue offering carload prices.  This year, the “Family and Friends” Carload deal will be in effect every race at $25/carload.  Concession prices have also been lowered.

“Families are struggling in this economy and we still want them to be able to come to the track and enjoy a night of racing,” Austin said.  “We’ve lowered concession prices across the board as well.  We want families to know that a night at the races is cheaper than going to a movie and it’s an experience that nobody will forget and we want that experience to be as affordable as possible for the fans.”

While the prices for the fans have been lowered, car counts are on the rise.  128 drivers have registered to compete this season at Franklin County Speedway among the seven divisions that will compete on a regular basis.

“We’re really excited about the car counts,” Austin explained.  “Car counts have been up across the board all over the region and Franklin County will be no exception.  I’m excited about it and I’m sure the fans will be as well.  Over 20 Late Models racing around the high banks on Sunday afternoon, it’s going to be a show for the fans for sure.”

Franklin County Speedway has also added activities for kids and entertainment will be added at every event in addition to the racing.

The 45th season will get underway on Sunday afternoon, April 13th, with the Second Annual Racing Dynamiks 200.  Gates will open at 12:15pm, qualifying begins at 1:30pm and the green flag will wave on the 2014 racing season at 3:00pm.
