Hickory, NC(April 4, 2009) — Andy Mercer wasn’t as fast in qualifying in the second race of the season as he was in the season opener a few weeks back, but this time he used the outside line to jump into the lead and he never looked back.

There was never any time for the ‘New King’ of Hickory Motor Speedway to look back as the race went caution free from green flag to checkered. Mercer led every lap en route to his first win of the young season after falling short to Jesse LeFevers in race number one. For LeFevers it was a tough weekend after taking the win on Friday night at Tri-County Motor Speedway, the young driver found himself disqualified following post race tech. Then on Saturday night he qualified on the pole only to finish third in the 50-lap race after having the handling go away on his car early in the run.

The surprise of the night was an exceptional performance by Ash Huffman where he raced up to second position at the finish of the race. With Mercer winning, Huffman second and LeFevers third it was rookie, Cole Miktuk who claimed the fourth place finish with Dexter Canipe, Jr. coming home fifth. David Wilson, Jarit Johnson, Josh Wimbish, James Goff and Grant Wimbish completed the top ten finishers in a 16-car field.
