DILLON, SC :: An afternoon of racing was on tap Labor Day Monday, as has been tradition for the last few years at Dillon Motor Speedway.  Monday afternoon also saw a first, no not a racetrack allowing spectators into the grandstand free of charge, but Clint Mills picking up his first Late Model victory on Monday.

Mills charged from the fifth starting position in the first 30 lap race for the featured Late Model division.  Mills passed Archie Adams, Jr. for the race lead and victory with less then ten laps remaining and cruised to victory.

We had a bad fast car in the race, it really had the forward drive!” said Mills.  “I can’t thank my crew, Bryan Dean, my Mom & Dad. My wife and cousin Dillon enough. And a great thanks to my 80 year old grandpa that helped me prepare the car all week.” Mills continued.

Mills would elect to go to ninth starting position in the second race and a chance to win an extra $1,000 if he could win the second race.

The start of the second race would see Mills involved in a wreck on the first lap exiting turn four. What looked like payback following last week were Mills and Justin Hicks got involved in a racing accident would see Hicks return the favor this week.  Anthony Adams, however would receive the worst damage and be done for the night.

Archie Adams, Jr. would again dominate the second race, only to be passed by Greg Peterson with a handful of laps left. Peterson would collect his fourth win of the season and an extra $700 for electing to start seventh after finishing third in the first race.  Adams, Jr would elect to start from the pole in the second race and pass on the opportunity at the extra payday.

“At the beginning of the year my car owner, ex boss Tim Furr said we would go run a few races at Dillon as long as we could keep the car paying the bills.  We came so close to winning at the first of the year we had to keep coming back.  So the decision to take the 8th place starting position in second race was easy one to take.” said Greg Peterson.  “We have been fortunate to get 3 wins in the last month so we had to go for the bonus, and it paid off”

Peterson continued by thanking Ron Barfield and the entire Dillon Motor Speedway staff.

“Ron Barfield and whole staff have been a pleasure to race for. The competition level there has been very stout all season!”

“I’ve gotta thank RFR Motorsports, Peterson racing, C&C Fire Apparatus, Miracle Dental Center and all my guys for the hard work week in and week out.” Peterson continued

The biggest accident of the night would occur in the second feature of the night.  Greg Peterson and Tim Allensworth, along with Marty Griggs would all race hard for position. Peterson and Allensworth would get loose exiting turn four.  Allensworth would collect Marty Griggs and both would pound the wall, ending up just under the flagstand on the front stretch. Both Allensworth and Griggs nights were over.

Archie Adams, Jr. would finish second in both races after.  Peterson was third in the first race, followed by Ryan Hall and pole sitter Marty Griggs.

In the second race, Ryan Hall would run second for much of the race only to end up in third after Greg Peterson moved around him.  Clint Mills and Shaun Mangum rounded out the top five.

Ryan Hall, with the help of seven wins this season leads the Dillon Motor Speedway points over Archie Adams, Jr by 36 with one race remaining.  Greg Peterson with four wins in third, Jason Clark and Clint Mills round out the top five.

Dillon Motor Speedway returns to action in a week and a half with the Late Models and Pee Dee Coastal Super Truck Series.
