Oklahoma City, OK(July 13, 2012) — Last month, Trey Marcham visited the 3/10 mile Newport Speedway for the first time in his career and with only one top five to his credit, he posted his best career finish of second and now the series readies to head back to the Newport, TN speedplant.

For Marcham, his first visit to Newport Speedway back on June 16th was his formal introduction to the smallest track on the UARA circuit. The end result was a second place finish, but the race that unfolded in front of Marcham will be one he probably won’t ever forget as he got to witness one of the most intense races in UARA-STARS Series history.

“That was a crazy race,” said Marcham. “We were just biding our time, then the front couple of cars all crashed with a lapped car there and I was just in a good position to miss the crash for the most part. We were going to get our best finish of the season either way it looked like, but that big wreck definitely helped.”

Marcham, who had started the season out with two disappointing 12th place finishes after spins in the first two races, rallied back in race three at Anderson Motor Speedway with a fourth place effort. Newport was the culmination of the team’s hard work with the second place finish.

“The first race of the season, I think we had a car good enough to finish in the top five, for my first race in the UARA. Other people kept us from getting the finishes we deserved in the first two, but things started to come together at Anderson and Newport was what we were looking for.”

Marcham and his team raced just two weeks ago in their fifth UARA-STARS Series start at Hickory Motor Speedway and charged from a 22nd place start to finish 7th and earned the Holley Performer Award for passing the most cars. The performance of the last three races and a return to Newport Motor Speedway this weekend has Marcham and his team excited.

“I really think that we had the best car at the end of the last Newport race,” stated Marcham. “Roger Johnson (crew chief) and my guys have given me cars capable of running up front every week and we’ve been able to prove that, the last couple of races. This weekend going back to Newport, we feel as if we have everything in place to be in contention for the win.”
