After Lonesome Pine Raceway announced they were cancelling their July 4th race, rumors surfaced that the track would be closing.  Lonesome Pine Raceway general manager Karen Tunnell denied those rumors.

“The Stiltners wanted to move the race,” Tunnell said.  “They were afraid there wouldn’t be high attendance because it was on the 4th of July.  We’ve never run on July 4th.  It’s always been on July 3rd or 5th.”

The cancellation of the race led to rumors about the track’s future.  Tunnell simply laughed off the suggestion that, located in Coeburn, Virginia, was closing.

“We’re not closing.  That’s funny (rumors).  We’re not closing, I assure you.  It was more of a business decision than anything.  That’s what gets me with social media.”

Tunnell is also the general manager of Kingsport Speedway.  Lonesome Pine Raceway on Saturday night.  Kingsport Speedway is off this Friday night.
