The track nestled in the hills of Hudson, NC known as Tri-County Motor Speedway will roar to life once again on September 24th with the running of the “Rumble In the Hills” presented by Wrenchrags featuring 100 laps for the stars and cars of the Limited Late Model division.

In recent years the 4/10th’s mile speedplant has sat idle while only hosting special events sparingly each summer. This special event gives the drivers of the Limited Late Model division the center stage, at one of the “raciest” tracks around where running three wide lap after lap is the norm. The worn out surface of the banked track puts driving back in the drivers hands, having the “latest and greatest” on your car might not do the trick as well as a driver playing strategy. That’s why Tri-County has been the scene of many first time winners as most times over half the field has a chance to win. And this event is open to any Limited Late Model driver, it doesn’t matter if you have a Cup championship or one win from your local track, all drivers are welcomed.

The race itself will pay in a new way, with the halfway winner getting just a bit more than the person who takes the checkered flag. This new concept puts racing as the focus for the entire event, instead of riding and racing for the last 20 laps. The halfway leader will get $1000 presented by Lakeside Marina plus a drum of Renegade race fuel to use at their convenience. The overall winner will also get $1000 so if someone wants to go all out, they have a chance at a $2000 payday. There will also be a pole award presented by Wrenchrags and Dexter’s Detailing. Other awards will be announced leading into the event.

The tire deal will also be unique. You must buy six tires but only two can be new. You can have four scuffs and two new tires, five scuffs and one new tire, or just six scuffs. Tires can be used however you want during the race. If you want to start with two new tires, rock on. One scuff tire and one new tire at halfway? Go for it. Start with scuffs and put two new on at halfway? That’s on you. Only two tires changed at halfway, whatever the combination. There will be an invert inside the top ten before the race starts and a lucky fan will draw a number for the invert at halfway. Full, overall rules for the entire event will be announced later this week.

Drivers running the 602 crate motor are also encouraged to come. And don’t let your motor fool you, Tri-County is an equalizer in every fashion. The highest finishing 602 driver will receive and extra $200. If a driver with a 602 wins the race, they will be given and extra $500 on top of the $1000 to win.

And don’t fret, the Limited Late Models won’t be the only division in action. A special 50 lapper for the Street Stocks is on tap paying $500 to win. Street Stocks will have a $50 entry fee but you can bring your own tires, Hoosier F-45’s with 5/32nd tread to help their back pocket. The wild and exciting Renegades will also be in action for 20 laps.

September 24th, racing starts at 7pm with spectator gates opening at 5pm, don’t miss out on competing or seeing racing at one of the most competitive tracks in the country. Only $5 grandstand admission with children under 7 free. Trackside parking will be available for $15 a car and $5 a head.
