KNOXVILLE, TN :: Chad Finchum extended his lead atop the Kingsport Speedway track standings and atop the NASCAR Whelen All American Series (NWAAS) Tennessee State Championship standings by virtue of his second place finish at Kingsport Speedway on Friday night.

Finchum started the race in the second position after the top four cars were inverted.   He took the lead early and led up until lap 29 until another car moved him up the track to take the lead.  Finchum held on to the second position after a few restarts and went on to finish in second.

“I just tried to use my head tonight,” said Finchum.  “We’ve worked hard all year.  We put a statement out there at the beginning of this year that our team had prepped all winter and we were ready to win a state title and a track title and I think we’re going to back it up.  It’s not over until next week but I definitely think this team’s capable of it.  Even if something goes wrong and we don’t have the championships in our hands, this team is a championship team.  If we don’t get it this year, we will get it next year.”

Finchum extended his points lead by finishing ahead of his main championship rival in the race.  The ‘King of the Concrete Jungle’ will be crowned on Friday night, August 16th, in twin 50 lap features at Kingsport Speedway.

In addition to the second place finish, Finchum also won $300 in gold coins in the Precision Electrical Company Dash for Cash.  The Dash for Cash format involved the top five qualifiers getting a chance to win up to $500 in gold coins in a time trial shootout.  Finchum won the first round in the Dash for Cash shootout, winning $300.

Finchum will be back in action on Friday night, August 16th in the final race of the regular season at Kingsport Speedway.
