CHRISTIANSBURG, VA :: Derrick Lancaster had to work his way through the field multiple times at Kingsport Speedway after missing the setup in qualifying and receiving multiple penalties during the 60 lap feature on Friday night.  Lancaster ended up finishing in third.

Lancaster qualified ninth for the race after being near the top of the charts in practice.  The car had too much brake in qualifying but the team was able to take some brake out before the feature.  Lancaster worked his way towards the front multiple times but was penalized three times for aggressive driving.  Despite the penalties, he was able to drive back inside the top five.

“We were black flagged three times and only one was questionable,” said Lancaster.  “It was just rough those last ten laps.  We came from the back toward the front within the top five three times.  I’m not taking anything from any other competitor but I think we could’ve run second.  I wanted to finish behind that 19 so I could see what he had.  If his motors legal, we’ll be running it next week.”

The third place finish was Lancaster’s best finish of the season to date and his third top five finish of the season.  It comes after Lancaster posted an 11th place finish at Motor Mile Speedway the week before and a fifth at Kingsport on June 14th.

“We’ve run well but haven’t been consistent,” said Lancaster.  “We snuck in the top five at Motor Mile but the car was junk.  We’ve had problems at Motor Mile.  The car was tight in the center and up off in the Dodge.  The Chevrolet last week was down on power.”

Lancaster’s planning on returning to Kingsport Speedway on Friday night, July 5th.
