Cole Bruce will begin his 2019 racing season at South Boston Speedway on Saturday afternoon as he continues to gain experience and hopes to rack up more victories.

Bruce, 15, from Fredericksburg, Virginia tested at the historic South Boston Speedway last weekend in preparation for this weekend’s 50-lap race, which will be his first career South Boston start.  Last year, he scored four wins at Dominion Raceway in a Limited Late Model.  Now, he’s hoping to gain more experience and contend against some of the strongest competition in Limited Late Model racing.

“We’ve only tested at that track one time which was last weekend,” Bruce said.  “We had a good about 100+ laps on that track.  I’m expecting to be in the ballpark.  Hopefully a top-five finish.  Mainly just to have no issues and run towards the front.  Have no problems and learn more about the track and get more racing experience.”

While Bruce has won races at Dominion Raceway, he knows the competition at South Boston Speedway will be quite tough.  The Limited Sportsman class at South Boston is an all-star roster featuring former champions and a cast of rising stars, but Bruce knows that racing with this caliber of competition will help him progress even more as a driver.

“I think it will be a good thing for me,” Bruce explained.  “With more experienced drivers, I can learn more with them and practice more with how to pass and race with more experienced drivers.  We’re just trying to get our name out there and prove to everybody we’re not somebody who can’t compete.  We can show up to a track and run up front with other drivers.”

Bruce will start out the season running at both South Boston Speedway and Dominion Raceway when the tracks do not have conflicting dates.  Later in the season, he will decide, based on where he stands in points at both tracks, where he will continue racing.

“Right now, we’re just going to concentrate on both tracks,” Bruce remarked.  “Around mid-season we’re going to decide which track we’re going to focus on the most.  It’ll be one of those tracks that we run for the championship at.”

Bruce will be supported in 2019 by Papa John’s, Shepherd’s Heating and Air, Matco Tools, Radley Cadillac in Fredericksburg, Mullins Racing and Dinah Marie Photography.
