Oklahoma City, OK(June 18, 2012) — Heading into the weekends race at Newport Speedway, Trey Marcham was looking to one up his best career finish of fourth from two weeks ago at Anderson Motor Speedway and did just that with a second place run.

Marcham was quiet all weekend, turning in fast times in practice sessions and backing that up with a ninth place qualifying effort. While ninth isn’t exactly where any racer wants to qualify, the way this race played out it proved to be one of the best positions not to be involved in a crash. Carnage had gobbled up several of the front runners late in the race and Marcham was exactly where he needed to be to survive.

“That was a crazy race,” said Marcham following the checkered flag. “We were just biding our time early and through the middle of this race, just waiting for the other guys to come to us. Then the front couple of cars all crashed with a lapped car there and I was just in good position to miss the crash for the most part.”

For Marcham the second place effort was enough to earn him his first Rookie of the Race award of the 2012 season.

“It’s pretty cool to be the top finishing rookie in the race. There’s a great group of rookie drivers out here and for us to keep getting better every week and nearly pull off a win tonight is awesome.”

Marcham, who was only making his fourth start in the UARA-STARS Series at Newport, finished 12th in both his first two starts at Hickory Motor Speedway and Kingsport Speedway after being spun out and surviving to finish, but had a solid night at Anderson Motor Speedway and finished fourth, his first top five finish. The second place run at Newport Speedway shows that Marcham is improving weekly.

“I’ve got to give it to my guys,” stated Marcham. “Roger Johnson from Performancenter and his crew have given me cars that are capable of racing up front with the best cars here in the UARA. We’ve proven that we can race up front these last two races and I’m getting better every week on asphalt. Hopefully we’ll get us a win in this series before the season is over with.”
