The month of May is big for any race fan around the country with  tracks of all shapes and sizes being filled up with high horse powered machines, grills, and good times. However; many don’t realize that the entire month of May is Military Appreciation Month, set aside to honor and recognize both active duty and veterans of the Armed Forces who risk their lives so that we have the freedom to enjoy the sport of stock car racing.

To close out the month of May the CARS Tour has partnered with local non-profit charity Military Missions in Action to honor those local military personal at the properly named “Don’t Tread on Me 250” on Saturday May 30th at Southern National Motorsports Park in Lucama, NC. The race will feature a patriotic atmosphere with several military branches in attendance, in addition to several special recognitions planned for pre-race ceremonies. Drivers and teams are also being encouraged by CARS Tour officials to add a patriotic touch to their May 30th car design if possible.

“Luckily with our partnership with Military Missions in Action (MMIA), based in nearby Fuquay-Varina, NC, we are able to put on a special event like this. We’ve got all kinds of military special guests that are going to be attendance, and we are hoping to raise some funds for MMIA and the work they do with disabled veterans in the region. Special ticket discounts will be available for anyone with a military ID, both active duty and retired, so all military are encouraged to join the festivities. It’s going to be a pretty special event for people who deserve it,” explained CARS Tour Director of Operations, Chris Ragle.

Youngsters Todd Gilliland (LMSC) and Cole Timm (SLM) will look bring out the broom at the 4/10th mile track having won the tour’s inaugural races there on March 28th. However, local Late Model Stock veterans Deac McCaskill and Jamey Caudill should weigh heavily on the outcome when the checkered flag gets ready to fly. Local Super Late Model drivers Clay Jones and Trevor Noles had impressive top ten finishes in March, and could easily make it four different winners in four races for the Super Late Model division as the tour rolls into Lucama next week.

The gates open at the Southern National Motorsports Park at 4pm on Saturday May 30th for the Don’t Tread on Me 250 presented by Military Missions in Action. Qualifying begins soon thereafter at 4:30pm, followed by driver introductions and pre-race ceremonies at 7pm. The first feature event takes the green at 7:30pm.
