When Southern National Motorsports Park and East Carolina Motor Speedway announced they would be running similar rules packages, many thought the North Carolina state champion could come from those two tracks. But now, with only a month-and-a-half remaining, that simply has not come to be.
Early in the season, Rusty Daniels found himself in the mix as did Bradley McCaskill. But the summer months have seen Bowman Gray Stadium drivers take over the top nine positions in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series North Carolina state championship race.
Tim Brown currently leads the standings by 27 points over Burt Myers with Jason Myers 39 points behind in third. Daniels, who just scored his second win of the season on Saturday night at Southern National Motorsports Park, is now 10th in points. Daniels is the highest non-Bowman Gray regular in the standings.
The cutoff for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship points is September 20th. However, the Bowman Gray Stadium season will end on August 22nd, which will give Daniels Tyler Matthews and Hickory Motor Speedway drivers Matt Piercy and Landon Huffman a month to gain points and possibly dethrone a Bowman Gray Stadium competitor for the state title.
