Oklahoma City, OK(July 26, 2012) — After a top five run in the most recent UARA-STARS Series race at Newport Speedway went wrong with a lap 115 crash, Trey Marcham returns to competition in the series at Caraway Speedway.
Asheboro, NC will be the site of Marcham’s seventh race of the season on asphalt as the UARA-STARS Series heads to Caraway Speedway, a 4/10 mile banked oval. Marcham, however has been busy over the last few weeks including his last UARA-STARS Series start at Newport Speedway, where he was running just inside the top five and got taken out in a crash with just 35-laps to go. His effort and subsequent bad luck earned him the Hard Luck Award.
Since then, he’s been back competing in a Mini Sprint Car on dirt and recently competed in a $10,000 to win show at Southern Illinois Speedway in Marion, Illinois. The 66 Mike Philips Memorial set the stage for three nights of racing for Marcham and after making it through all three days, he made the big race and started 23rd on the field. In the race, he wheeled his car to an 11th place finish, enough to earn him the Hard Charger Award.
“We’ve been a little busy on asphalt and dirt,” laughed Marcham. “The Mini Sprint race was three nights of racing and it wore all of us out, but to come out of there with the Hard Charger award and get an 11th place finish in one of the biggest races for those cars was pretty cool.”
With this week’s return to asphalt racing, Marcham and his RD Marcham Energy, Inc. team will set their sights on Caraway Speedway, another track that Marcham has never competed on. Despite the lack of experience on the track, the young driver is looking for success.
“I’ve been gaining experience each week,” said Marcham. “So, to have not been to any track really isn’t a big deal for us and we proved that with the way run at Newport Speedway, right off the trailer. I’m hoping we can duplicate that kind of success at Caraway this weekend.”
