Client PR: Contact Keeps Sammy Jasper from the Finish He Deserves at Anderson

Oak Hill, WV(June 5, 2012) — Coming into the weekend at Anderson Motor Speedway, Sammy Jasper was excited about his third UARA-STARS Series start, but a little contact during the mid-point of the race kept him from being able to race to the front for the finish.

Jasper, who practiced all day on Friday and most of the day on Saturday on old tires, before bolting on stickers to get ready for qualifying, felt as if he might not have got the best qualifying effort, but that he would be able to race through the field on old tires. After turning the second fastest lap in the final practice session on his mock qualifying run, Jasper was expecting a strong qualifying effort, but would end up starting 17th on the field. Despite qualifying poorly, he was still expecting to race to the front late in the race.

“I haven’t been all that good at qualifying,” said Jasper of his 17th place effort. “We had a great mock qualifying run and I was hoping that we had turned our qualifying luck around, but 17th isn’t where you want to start. I think we’ve got a great car though and we’ll let some of these guys use up their tires and be there at the end.”

Jasper stayed true to his plan when the green flag dropped for the 150-lap race and was just riding around when on a restart mid-race, he got hit by another car. The contact knocked the toe out on the car and despite trying to get the car better on a couple trips down pit road, he found himself without a chance to race up through the field.

“Man, we had such a good car and everything was looking so good there for a while,” commented Jasper. “We were just riding and letting these guys come to us, but on that restart there we got hit, I don’t even know who we got into, but it pretty much ended our night. Knocked the toe out and the car wasn’t going anywhere from there.”

Jasper officially will be credited with a 14th place finish. Despite, the tough way the night ended, Jasper was excited to know how good of a car he had and while he won’t be competing in the next three UARA-STARS Series races, he’s ready to get back at it.

“I can’t say enough about what Ed Berrier(crew chief) has done with this team. He’s turned us into a contender every race and if I can figure out qualifying and get us a top five starting spot, I think we’ll win some races. I hate we’re not going to Newport and Hickory for the next three races, but we’re going to go to Myrtle Beach Speedway for the July 3rd race and look to have a good run there.”

Jasper’s next race will come in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Late Model Stock Car division at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Tuesday, July 3rd. It will be his first start on the 5/8 mile track since finishing third in the SouthEast Limited Late Model race there in November 2010.
