SOUTH BOSTON, VA :: After 142 laps of intense racing at the legendary South Boston Speedway, Ross Kenseth found himself dancing in the rain when persistent rainfall forced PASS South series officials to end the race with only eight laps to go.
“About lap 40, I started going real hard,” Kenseth said. I knew Kyle and Preson were getting after it… I thought I burned it up by lap 80-90. The key for me was to be up top on the restarts and get up high. These guys raced me real clean. It’s fun to race in this PASS Series with guys like Kyle Grissom and Fogleman and Preston. They’ll race the crap out of you but it is fun to race that hard and keep the fenders on it.”
Kenseth took the lead on lap 135 on a wild restart as the rain began to fall on South Boston Speedway once again. Prior to that, Jay Fogleman and Trey Mitchell had been racing for the lead. Once Kenseth took the lead, he was able to take off until a caution came out Trey Mitchell and Trevor Noles got together.
PASS attempted everything they can to restart the race but the rain became too persistent and series officials called the race.
Jay Fogleman, who finished third, was miffed at the result.
“We had a real good car on the bottom of the track but when it’s wet, you can’t go down there,” Fogleman said, angrily after the race. “I’ve never seen anybody race in the rain. I might be better off to be quiet.”
Kyle Grissom finished in second. Preston Peltier and Kyle Moon rounded out the top five.
