Myrtle Beach, SC(August 3, 2012) — It was a night of thunder and lightning at Myrtle Beach Speedway Thursday night. With the skies showing lightning and hearing thunder in the distance drivers were anxious to get the race started and underway it what looked like an iffy night at the speedway. Only a few drops of rain were all that the fell during the Whelen All-American Series race and green flag was only pulled in for cautions caused by spins.

The 100 lap late model race was a barn burner among twenty-five cars who took the green flag. Sam Yarbrough who had, previously, won a guaranteed starting spot in Myrtle Beach 400 was on the point at the start. Jake Engle was in the hunt along with Jeremy McDowell, Jamey Lee, and Michael Faulk. On lap 23 Engle was out after a hard crash in turn four and his race was over. McDowell fought for the lead and was in first place on laps seven. He led until lap forty and Yarbrough made the pass back to the front, he continued there until the checkered flag. The battle for fourth thru fifth was hard fought among second place man Anthony Anders, Michael Faulk, Jeremy McDowell and Randy Porter.

In the battle for the points title at the speedway Yarbrough is now tied with Anthony Anders for first and Justin Milliken is now third. Milliken involved in the crash of Jake Engle brought is car home eighth trying salvage as many points a possible.

Yarbrough driving for Chad McCumbee was all praise for the crew and owner of what appears to be the best handling car on the track. The number 20 car has been riding on rails and experiencing very little tire wear over the distance. From the center of the corner out on both ends of ends of the speedway the car is incredible. Yarbrough has now posted his third win of the year. People are already saying this will be the car to beat in post season big Myrtle Beach 400. The track has been drawing large fields of late models for each of the races run so far this year and the competition has been keen and tight.
