Cole Glasson was stripped of his win in Saturday’s Southeast Super Truck Series (SESTS) race at Myrtle Beach Speedway after postrace technical inspection but, following an appeal, the series said his disqualification should have been overturned.

“The Southeast Super Truck Series had no authority in the management of the event this weekend at Myrtle Beach Speedway,” SESTS series owner Jeff Myers said in a statement released by the series.  “The series fully supports its drivers and it is the determination of the series that the #12 truck was legal per the series rulebook and should have been declared the winner of the event.”

While the statement reads as if Glasson’s disqualification was overturned, it was not because the event was not organized by the series.  Myers’ statement was a show of support for the drivers in the series.

The victory, which would have been Glasson’s first career victory in the series, was taken from him well over five hours after the completion of the event.  He had won the Southeast Limited Late Model (SELLM) Challenger race the night before and had been eyeing a weekend sweep before getting taken out in one of the 23 cautions that plagued the 100 lap SELLM Pro feature race.

Martin Nesbitt of Nesbitt Racing Enterprises, which is the team Cole Glasson races for, released a 1,892 word statement on Monday evening.  You can view the full statement (PDF) by clicking here.

Nesbitt Racing Enterprises also posted a video on Facebook of the shock that they were disqualified for, which Nesbitt says was taken in tech at the track.

Mike Cox responded to Jeff Myers’ statement of support for Cole Glasson, in an all-caps comment on the website OnPitRoad.com, a website which does media work for the Southeast Super Truck Series:

JEFF I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW YOU MADE THAT DETERMINATION WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE TRUCK. WHAT WE FOUND WAS THAT THE SPRING WOULD NOT LET THE TRUCK CHASIS KEEP MOOVING DOWN. THE NOSE WAS NOT ON THE GROUND. I WENT BY YOUR RULE BOOK THAT STATES THAT ANYTHING THAT STOPS THE MOVEMENT OF THE CHASIS WOULD NOT BE LEGAL. YOU CAN CALL ME A LIAR IF YOU WANT TO BUT YOU ARE WRONG. I SLEPT GOOD SATURDAY NIGHT BECAUSE I MADE THE RIGHT CALL. IT DONT MATTER WHO IT WAS IF YOU ARE WRONG YOU ARE WRONG. MAY GOD BLESS YOU!
