Sam Yarbrough has been, in a word, dominant at Myrtle Beach Speedway this season.

So far, the two-time defending Myrtle Beach Speedway champion has scored six wins on the 2015 season, with his most recent coming on Saturday night.  Those wins have helped him amass a 54 point lead over Tyler English in the track’s championship standings and put him third in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) South Carolina State Championship standings behind Greenville-Pickens Speedway regulars David Roberts and Trey Gibson.

“There’s only one way to sum it up, consistency,” Yarbrough said of his season.  “The car’s driven the same the first night we won up to this point now.  Chad McCumbee does a spectacular job, he gives me a great racecar week in and week out.  I told the guys at the track the other night it’s not effortless but it’s as close to a self-driving car as you can get.  It’s phenomenal the way it handles all the time.”

Yarbrough is aware of the state championship picture and says he is definitely in pursuit of the state title.

“Besides the track championship, the state championship is something we’ve gone after for a few years,” Yarbrough commented.  “We have a really god shot to wrap that up thi year, bring it home for the Chad McCumbee racing team.”

The Myrtle Beach Speedway season schedule only has a handful of races remaining but Yarbrough says the track is planning to add additional races.  As for traveling, he may do so if it is necessary in trying to chase down Roberts and Gibson.

“I’ve been told the track is adding a few more dates to get us over that threshold of 18 starts and that’s going to help.  Depending on where it is in the next month, we will make a decision on if we need to travel, if we’re going to travel.  We’ll try to secure the points.”

Yarbrough has won the championship the last two seasons at Myrtle Beach Speedway and may very well be on his way to a third, but he will have his work cut out for him if he’s going to win the state championship – which has gone in recent years to Anthony Anders who is now the promoter at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
