RANDLEMAN, NC :: Ryan Wilson finished third in the season opener at Caraway Speedway on Sunday, March 10th.  Wilson ran in the top five all race after a sixth place qualifying effort.

Wilson qualified in sixth with a 17.108 second lap.  He would start sixth after the top-six qualifiers drew for their starting positions. Wilson moved up pretty quickly, overtaking several cars in the first 20 laps and moving up to second place.  He was shuffled back to fourth after a few restarts but the car was strong on the long runs.  During the middle and late stages of the race, which were run mostly caution free, Wilson clicked off some fast laps en route to a third place finish.

“On the restarts, we couldn’t really go anywhere,” said Wilson.  “We were really loose.  The longer it went, the better we got.  I just had to ride there just to maintain what I had.  I wasn’t going to crash the guys in front of me.  We had a decent car but that’s definitely not what we wanted.  I thought, Saturday when we left here, we were the quickest car here.  That shows that we were.  The two guys that beat us are guys that came from other tracks yesterday.”

Wilson will be running for the track championship at Caraway Speedway this season and he starts his bid being the highest finisher among the Caraway Speedway regulars in Sunday’s 100 lap event. With that run, Wilson would be leading the point standings among those who will chase the track championship.

“It’s just a little disappointing,” said Wilson.  I felt like we had a better car than that.  The car is in one piece.  We’re ready to go on to next week.  “I think I only got one person mad at me so that’s not too bad.  When someone cuts across your nose ten times, you’ll have that.  It was a decent run but not what I wanted.”

Wilson’s next race will be on Saturday, March 16th at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, NC.
