With twin features on the schedule for the June 9th race at Carteret County Speedway, Mini Tyrrell was looking for his first win but came up short in both features.

In the first race of the night, Mini raced up to second and looked to take the lead late before scoring placed him back in second for a late race restart. Mini would have to settle for second despite appearing to have the best car late in the race.

“I thought we had the lead there late,” said Mini. “But I guess the caution came out before all the cars completed the lap and they had to go back a lap on scoring. That put us second for that last restart and from there we just couldn’t get back to the lead.”

Mini’s second-place finish had him even more poised for a win in the second race of the night. He would get the lead on lap 15 of 40 and would hold it until a late race caution allowed the field to catch up. Mini would lose the lead on the final two laps and would slip to third coming to the line.

“Man, I really thought we had that one,” commented Mini after the race. “We were so close in both races tonight. We had a great car and a great run and just came up short twice. Everyone raced us clean and you can’t ask for better competitors.”

Mini’s second and third place finishes give him a lot of momentum as he readies for what will be the biggest Late Model race of his career next month when Carteret County Speedway hosts a $15,000 to win race on July 7th.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better car. Brandon (Butler, crew chief) has this thing right where it needs to be and I can’t wait for the July 7th race. I think we’ll be really good in that race but I know we’ll have the most competition we’ve seen here all year.”

Mini will have a few weeks off with July 7th race being the next event on the schedule but that won’t mean he won’t be testing and getting ready for the big race.
