The largest paying Late Model Stock race in history finally comes to reality after CARS Tour officials announced the surprise event last September.

Thirty-nine cars have pre entered the event also making it the highest attended CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car event in the series history. While CARS Tour powerhouse tour regulars including Deac McCaskill, Josh Berry, Bobby McCarty, Brandon Pierce, and Layne Riggs, headline the entry list, several new names will travel to the 3/8th mile track in hope of taking home the big payday.

Timothy Peters, Corey Heim, Carson Kvapil, Lee Pulliam, and local driver RD Smith are just a few names the tour attracted back to action with the big event. In addition, Ronald Hill, Craig Moore, Camden Guillie, Tracy Cambers, and more are area locals hoping to keep both the check and trophy close to home. Single car qualifying will lock in the top five fastest Saturday afternoon, followed by qualifying and a last chance to determine the twenty-nine car starting filed for Sunday’s 200 lap feature race.

QUOTES:

Riggs in Rougemont:
One of the top young guns since taking his first green flag, has been Layne Riggs. Riggs is a son of former NASCAR Cup competitor Scott Riggs. Despite his last name, Layne has no problem making himself a star on the tour, especially at his home track, Orange County Speedway. This weekend’s Old North State Nationals pres. by Visit Orange County could easily go to the Bahama, NC driver if he performs like he usually does at Orange County. With an average starting and finishing position of sixth, Riggs will look to do at least one spot better in time trials, before turning his focus to the 200 feature event on Sunday afternoon at 3PM.

“I think this weekend is going to be crazy. There are going to be so many cars going for the top prize and I feel like most of them will do whatever it takes to get there. Qualifying is going to be super important because only the top 5 are locked into their time trials position. The opportunity to not run a qualifying race will be beneficial for those top guys, because it will not put your car at risk. The qualifying races are going to be very intense and could wreck some race cars. The race is going to be good, hard racing throughout the field because of the strong competition and the Orange County’s track characteristics. There will not be too much tire conservation due to being able to get two tires at some point in the race. The good thing is Orange County is one of the best multi groove tracks we race at, resulting in lots of side by side racing. It’s going to be a good one that you’re not going to want to miss.” Layne Riggs – #6 Romeo Guest Construction/Puryear Tank Lines Ford

The Best in Late Model Stock Racing….Right Now
Since the astonishing announcement of the $30,000 to win and $1,250 to start, Old North State Nationals pres. by Visit Orange County last September, anticipation has built to an all-time high in Late Model Stock racing. The largest paying Late Model Stock race will be held at a grassroots short track. It has been a staple on the tour since its inception in 2015, and has built up to the weekend ahead. This race in its first year has attracted the best of the best when it comes to both competition, and fan count. The largest crowd and car county in series history is anticipated this weekend, and according to Series Director, Chris Ragle, these are the people that have a strong passion to see Late Model Stock Racing rise to the next level.

“I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, you can not be considered one of the best in Late Model Stock Car racing if you aren’t at this event as a competitor. No matter what you done in the past, I’m talking right now. That’s why this race was created. To make this twenty-eight car field, and race against the competition that will be on hand will be hard for each and every one there, and because of that the fans come out because they want to see the best on one track, in a full field. The fans that come to Orange County races and wild and passionate, so if you never have been to a race there, come check it out this weekend. These drivers will be cheered and booed, depending on who they are when we do driver intros, that’s what it is all about.” Chris Ragle – CARS Tour Series Director

Visiting Orange County While in Orange County:
A key ingredient in making this event happen is the Visitor Bureau of Orange County, North Carolina. Their partnership as the presenting sponsor helped to make this dream race a reality in its inaugural effort. Fans, teams, and media personnel converging on the area are encouraged to support the Orange County economy, by making a pit stop over the weekend in historic Hillsborough, North Carolina. The small historic town boast an abundance of restaurants, shops. It also includes both host hotels that are closest to the track, for those attending the full weekend’s activities.

“The communities that comprise Orange county offer something for everybody. From historic Hillsborough, to funky Carrboro, and the collegiate vibe of Chapel Hill, we invite all visitors coming in the area for the CARS Tour Old North State Nationals to explore our region and see what we have to offer. This is an exciting event that is going to be big for the Northern part of the county.” Laurie Paolicelli – Director of the Chapel Hill based Visitors Center
