MYRTLE BEACH, SC :: Myrtle Beach Speedway will run it’s Myrtle Beach 400 on a Saturday afternoon beginning in 2015 – giving the track flexibility in the event of inclement weather.
The track will add a practice day on Thursday, qualify on Friday and run the race on Saturday afternoon. Lutz said the Myrtle Beach 400 would remain a two week show with the Southeast Limited Late Models (SELLM) running the week before the Late Model Stock Car event.
“I think that, over the last couple years, we’ve made several adjustments to our schedule,” track owner Bob Lutz told RACE22.com. “As we go along, we learn and have come up with ideas we think will be better for both the racers and the fans. One change we’re making for next year is we’re going to have a practice day on Thursday, qualify on Friday and we’re going to race on Saturday. That will give us the flexibility that, if we do have any delays at all with race, we will be able to run either whatever we lose Saturday during the day, we can move into Saturday night or Sunday.”
The move came after Myrtle Beach Speedway moved Sunday’s events to Saturday night for this year’s race due to the certainty of rain on Sunday. Competitors in the garage welcomed the move to Saturday night instead of having to come back another week. In 2012, the race was rained out and pushed back to March – much to the dismay of several competitors.
“I think having that flexibility of having that extra day in there will help the racers and the fans that were planning on coming in for the event,” Lutz explained. “They don’t have to worry about a rain date for next week and having to come back and make this long trip because I know we get racers and fans from all over the east coast and we try to accommodate them as much as possible and try to make sure that when they get here, they’re going to be able to see a race and not have to go home disappointed.”
Lutz said the SELLM race weekend would follow the same schedule with practice on Thursday, qualifying on Friday along with the SELLM Challenger feature and the SELLM Pro feature race will be run on Saturday.
The three day shows will come on November 12th-15th and November 19th-21st.
