Altamahaw, NC (March 6, 2012) – The first race of its kind will be held at popular North Carolina short track Ace Speedway, located in Alamance County, NC, on Saturday, October 13. The First Annual Mischa Sell Memorial race will honor the wife of long time Limited Late Model competitor David Sell, who completed a six year battle with breast cancer this year. This event will feature 74-lap Limited Late Model, 35-lap Dirt Late Model and 25-lap UCar races with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation (JAJF).

“This will be the first event of its kind at Ace Speedway,” said David Sell, race coordinator. “Not only will we be celebrating the life of my wonderful wife, who was always very supportive of my passion for racing, but this is the first event of its kind, at Ace Speedway, which will pair our weekly asphalt limited late models with the late models that normally compete on dirt tracks.” Those competing in and attending these exciting races will also have an opportunity to give back to an organization that is near and dear to the family of Mischa Sell. “The Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation gave my family a chance to enjoy a new experience that allowed us a to have time out from the focus of my wife’s disease,” said Sell. “Now our family has an opportunity to give back.”

The Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation has become exceptionally important because of the lives they are impacting across the United States. For Oncologists to “prescribe” JAJF as part of the treatment protocol is extraordinary. A WOW is what JAJF does when MOM is turned upside down (and the entire family) because of late stage cancer. “To have JAJF praised nationally for the measurable and meaningful impact we are having on children who are facing the imminent loss of their Mom or Dad is humbling” said JAJF Founder, Jon Albert.

Not only is Ace Speedway giving a portion of the funds made at this event to the Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation, but the Jack & Jill families in attendance will also receive the VIP treatment with free race tickets, VIP suite seating and an opportunity to award the race winning drivers. “We are very excited to be hosting a racing event like this one,” said Brad Allen, Ace Speedway General Manager. “In fact, we are looking at making this an annual event to benefit late stage cancer patients like Mischa.”

Limited Late Model race participants will compete for a $1,000 payout to the race winner, while Dirt Late Model race participants, who will be making their first trip to the 4/10-mile speedway this season, will compete for a $1,500 payout to the winner. These competitors will also have an option to donate a portion of their race winnings to the Jack & Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation. Pits will open for prerace practice at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 12. Open practice will also be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on  Saturday, October 13, with pit gates opening at 8:00 a.m. Pre-race activities begin at 2:15 p.m. with racing beginning at 3:00 p.m. The first 20 competitors, in both the Limited Late Model and Dirt Asphalt division, to preregister will be guaranteed a starting position.
