Ty Majeski set a new track record on Friday for the Snowball Derby but time lost on pit road prevented him from taking advantage of his speed and relegated him to a third place finish in Sunday’s Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway.

Majeski led 63 of the first 66 laps, the other three being led by eventual Derby winner Chase Elliott. However, pit road set the number 91 car back in the field, as his crew is not a professional one for hire from a NASCAR team.

“We had a great race car, I think we were running times comparable to Christopher Bell and a little bit quicker than the 77 of Smith and the 9 of Elliott at the end, we just lost a bunch of time on pit road,” Majeski told race22.com

“I felt like we had a top five race car pretty much the whole race, and at the end we had a second place car, maybe could’ve battled with the 51 [of Christopher Bell], but we lost too much track position on pit road. We don’t have a hired pit crew or anything, it’s just the guys out of our shop and we just lost track position. This place is so tough on tires [that] by the time you get back up to where you were, you just wore it out, you just can’t improve on where you were at, but it is where it is, a great run, I’ll take a top five in the biggest race in the country,” Majeski said.

Majeski was quick to thank his crew after they put in their best effort both at the shop and at the track.

“It means a lot, these guys put their heart and souls into this race car, you know every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night, they’re in the shop working on it, trying to get better and you know as much as it would mean to win this thing, it’s still really cool to compete with these NASCAR-caliber teams with our team up from central Wisconsin, and finish top five too, it feels good.”
