Defending ValleyStar Credit Union 300 Tommy Lemons, Jr. was caught up in a multi-car accident on lap 84, knocking him out of Sunday afternoon’s race at Martinsville Speedway.

Lemons, R.D. Smith, Garrett Bunch and a handful of others were swept up in the accident.

“They started piling up in front of us,” Lemons said.  “Thought I had it clear and somebody turned R.D. back down the racetrack in front of us.  Just got caught up in it.  Part of racing.”

Lemons started the race in 26th after a penalty for jumping the start relegated him to the rear of the field in the heat race.  He was able to ultimately race his way into the main event but said that mistake put him in the spot he was in when he wrecked in the feature.

“I screwed up earlier today and cost us a chance,” Lemons stated.  “Come back next year and try again.”
