Since the final checkered flag fell in 2016, the debate regarding the fate of Kingsport Speedway has been up in the air.
Those uncertainties can now be placed to rest, as the 0.375-mile oval is back in business for 2017.
With the support of Joe and Phyllis Loven, Southwest Virginia businessman Ervin Stiltner will again lease the facility. Karen Tunnell of Wise, Virginia will remain as general manager and promoter for the fourth consecutive season.
“I’m so excited that ‘The Concrete Jungle’ will be back in action next season,” said Tunnell. “We’re already working on so many different and exciting things.”
Tunnell also touched on the 2017 season schedule.
“Our 2017 schedule is mostly finished except for a couple of items that need to be finalized,” added Tunnell. “The first green flag will wave in late March as usual.”
NASCAR sanctioning will continue at the concrete oval under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner.
Kicking off the 2017 season will be the annual mall show at the Kingsport Town Center. The event will take place in February, but an exact date is still in the works.
Information regarding division rules meetings will be made available in the coming weeks. The date and details for the 2016 awards banquet are also set to be released soon.
