When Hickory Motor Speedway opens its doors for the 2018 season on March 17th there will be a new head tech official for the first time in five years.

Long time Hickory Motor Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Official Tony Wilson has been promoted to head tech official over all divisions at Hickory Motor Speedway. Wilson will succeed Former Hickory Motor Speedway track champion and head tech official over the last four years Scott Kilby. Kilby also served one year as race director for the track.

“I would like to thank Kevin for the opportunity to be part of the Hickory Motor Speedway staff the past several years,” commented Kilby. “It has been great to experience the ‘other side of the fence’ so to speak and work with such great people, drivers and teams. I value each of your friendships greatly! With more demands on my time due to work and family, I just feel I currently can’t continue to devote the time and focus that is needed to fill such an important role, but it does give me great satisfaction in knowing the role is in such good hands with Tony.”

Hickory Motor Speedway General Manager Kevin Piercy said Kilby will be missed but that Wilson should be prepared to lead the track into the new season.

“Scott will be truly missed at Hickory Motor Speedway and it has been an absolute joy working with him,” said Piercy. “Tony has been a devoted official with us for several years and the opportunity to learn under one of the best with Scott should prepare him for the opportunity he has been given for 2018. We expect all of our officials to be professional, knowledgeable and courteous to all of our competitors and the groundwork has been laid for Tony to move right in to this position.”

Tony has been a NASCAR official at HMS for the last 11 years and is looking forward to the challenge of leading the historic venue.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to step into this roll and looking forward to the challenge,” said Wilson. “Continuing the work and the level of integrity that Scott brought to Hickory Motor Speedway.”
