Mike Looney gave fans the Shock of the Race last year first when he qualified on the pole and then dominated the race. Who will be this years shock?

The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 has attracted 88 Late Model teams and drivers for the very first night race at Martinsville Speedway. While drivers like Lee Pulliam and Philip Morris are normally heavy favorites for the event, race22.com and Earnest Performance Shocks will present the “Shock of the Race” award to the Late Model team that provides an unorthodox moment during the race.

“Excited to have Earnest Performance come on board to present the driver or team that has a shocking moment this weekend,” said race22.com founder Langley Austin. “This award will go to the driver or team that shockingly makes it or wins, or has some kind of shocking moment during the race. It’ll be cool to follow and see who the staff nominates.”

Unlike with the “Best Appearing Car” award, fans will not be able to participate in this contest. The race22.com staff will come together in the week after the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 to determine the most shocking moment during the race, and will present the “Earnest Performance Shock of the Race” award at the end of the week.

The ValleyStar Credit Union 300 is NASCAR’s biggest, richest and most prestigious Late Model Stock Car race. The day starts with three 25-lap heat races to set the field, followed by a 25-lap “last chance” heat. Tickets for the September 23rd event are on sale now.
