Daniel Hemric had one of the faster cars for the 2015 Snowball Derby on Sunday, but could only manage a 10th place finish at Five Flags Speedway.

Hemric had driven for Carswell Motorsports in his past three Derbies, but switched to Richie Wauters Motorsports this summer. He had a teammate this year in Dalton Sergeant, who ended up finishing fourth. Hemric tested both cars, which might have compromised his setup.

“Obviously to run like we did I think it was very disappointing, we were struggling all weekend to get the handle this thing for whatever reason, it’s kind of like fighting an uphill battle, from the time we unloaded, nobody gave up, we fought as hard as we could, we did everything we could to get as even with the setup and to come back with Wauters Motorsports to chase the Snowball one more time,” Hemric said.

“But at the end of the day, I’m so irritated, so frustrated, I feel like the success we’ve had here in the past in other stuff and then come here and not get the results, it’s very disappointing and disheartening but at the end of the day, there’s always another day we’ll move on, try to build on it and maybe next year,” Hemric said.

Hemric was complimentary of the effort his team gave, despite not having the pace during the week to contend for the win.

“By the second or third run of tires, whenever the newness was worn off the tires, we were in kind of bad shape, we had no pace. We were within two or three tenths of the 51, and then about another tenth from the guys you knew you were going to have to race. From that point, we built on it, got a little better throughout the week. These guys worked hard, we just could never hit on anything and make changes to the car. At the end of the day, it’s auto racing, and to have days like this, you just have got to carry on, and get after it next time.”

Hemric’s finish was the best one of his Derby career, with previous finishes of 29th, 20th and 24th. He started 11th, which was his worst Derby start.
