Chuck Lawson drove to his first win of the 2016 season in a 50 lap Late Model Stock Car race
at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night.

Lawson started from the pole and held off a hard charging Chris Denny to take the triumph. Terry Dease drove to third in a backup car after his primary mount developed a serious miss in qualifying.

Lawson was happy, but somewhat reserved in victory lane.

“I wish some of the other top cars had been here,” Lawson remarked.

Previous 2016 winners Craig Moore and Layne Riggs were not on hand. Moore is reportedly fighting an illness while Riggs chose to run a CARS series event in Hudson, N.C.

Ross Boo Boo Dalton survived a sensational duel with Daryl Carver to garner the Limited Sportsman checkers. The duo ran side by side for many of the 35 laps before Dalton pulled away late. Pole winner Chris Elliott was a strong third.

“That’s a good driver and a good car right there,” Dalton stated about Carver. “We’re gonna have our hands full the rest of the year.”
