SWANSBORO, NC – A competitive field of Limited Late Models have descended upon Carteret County Speedway for Sunday night’s Solid Rock Carriers Labor Day Classic.

Saturday afternoon’s practice session saw a combination of Late Model heavyweights, former champions and former winners take to the track.  Of the cars who registered practice speeds with the track’s timing and scoring, 2016 track champion Chris Burns was fastest wit ha 16.425.  However, several drivers practiced without electronic transponders and, unofficially, recorded lap times in the lower 16-second range.

Layne Riggs is one of the favorites to win Sunday night’s Labor Day Classic.  Riggs led wire-to-wire in the $15,000-to-win Solid Rock Carriers 150 back in July and finished second in the CARS Response Energy Tour race at Carteret County.  However, there is plenty of competition for Riggs on Sunday.

Virginia driver Connor Hall has two wins at Carteret County Speedway and has run some of the fastest laps ever recorded at the 4/10-mile track.  Points leader Brandon Clements, former Martinsville Speedway ValleyStar Credit Union 300 winner Jason York, reigning Southern National Motorsports Park champion Mason Diaz, two-time Labor Day Classic winner Clay Jones, and five-time Carteret County winner Eric Winslow are also on hand for the event.

Michael Tilley, who has recorded multiple wins throughout his career at Carteret County, practiced on Friday evening and is expected to be on hand on Sunday with a Rusty Wallace throwback paint scheme.  Chris Phipps, Tim Allensworth, Jamie York and TJ Barron are also on hand, while more cars are expected to arrive tomorrow.

Practice for Sunday’s Labor Day Classic will begin at 3pm, qualifying will commence at 5pm, and the green flag will fly with the 125-lap Limited Late Model race being the final feature of the night.  The Labor Day Classic also features racing for Legends, Street Stocks, Mini-Stocks, U-CARs and Champ Karts.

Tickets are $20 for adults while kids 10 and under get in free.
