Cole Bruce got his redemption at Dominion Raceway on Saturday night, making a late race pass on the outside to score the win in the Dominion Racer class.

The victory, officially Bruce’s first win, came a week and a half after his previous win was disallowed.  The previous win being taken away was a setback for the 14-year-old from Fredericksburg, Virginia, but he came to Dominion knowing he would have to overcome adversity.

“It was tough mentally, fighting back,” Bruce said.  “I was talking to our crew guys, knowing we’ll have to come back faster and stronger and just overcome it.  It got me really fired up, got the blood pressure up and made me want to win it even more.”

A restart in the final 20 laps of the 35 lap race set Bruce up on the outside lane.  Being able to run on the outside lane has been a point of emphasis for Cole Bruce and his team.  Bruce was able to take the lead away from Reid Murphy and drove away from the field for the win.

“Luckily a caution came out with 20 to go,” Bruce remarked.  “After that, After Hours Fabrication gave us a great car to run on the outside for the pass.  Just led the race from there on out.”

For Bruce, the victory was both redeeming and vindicating.

“It feels great to get the win,” Bruce explained.  “We’re relaxed now.  We got the monkey off our back and got the win.  I’m excited about it and I’m feeling confident.  I think we can go win more races now.  Really proud of our crew chief, Dakota Ward, this entire CBR racing team and glad to represent Papa Johns, Matco Tools by Mark Breeden, Shepherd’s Heating & Air, Dinah Marie Photography and Mullins Racing in victory lane.”

Cole Bruce’s next race will be in the Dominion Racer class at Dominion Raceway on Saturday, July 21st.
